2009 Rules

Snowmobiles: 

 Safety:

All drivers must wear a fullface helmet with eye protection

All drivers must wear a chest protector

All sleds must have a working tether

All sleds must have a snow flap that touches the ground with driver on board

All sleds must have ski loops

All sleds must have a hood

All sleds must have functional brakes

All sleds must have a clutch guard

General:

3/8 max length of studs above the highest point of the track

Lubbers are allowed on all race sleds, no green slide lube

Cleated tracks allowed.  TRACKS MUST BE IN GOOD CONDITION!

  

IFS 340/440:  1995 & Older

Any 1995 or older factory production chassis allowed.  SnoPro sleds allowed.

Engines must be 1995 or older.  Carbed.  Any engine modifications allowed.  Any exhaust. 

Any size carbs.

Any track and suspension.

Any chassis modifications - hood, seats, steering, gas tank etc.. max 45 inch wide front end.

Formula 500/340:

Must start with 1992 or older Polaris Indy Carburated models!

The brand of hood, engine and logo need not match.

No component of the engine may be altered, changed or enlarged from the engine manufacturer’s original stock specifications, nor may any additional components be added to the engine. No engine kits allowed. Aftermarket or OEM stock replacement gaskets and Pistons allowed.

Replacing OEM carburetor slide valve and replacement jet components without modification allowed. No modification to carb body allowed.  Stock OEM Carb size for model.

Thermostat may be removed.

Cooling system must remain completely stock and in the OEM location .

The exhaust system must be OEM for the model and be mounted in the OEM location for the model. Welded-on after muffler and internal stinger pipe may be removed and replaced with any size stinger. The exhaust system must be functionally silenced. The ball socket on exhaust chamber may be repaired or replaced but MUST maintain original tuned length and inside diameter. NO OTHER CHANGES ALLOWED.

No changes or repairs allowed to “Y” pipe.

Engine must remain in stock location and must use stock engine plate and mounts. Torque limiters allowed.

The primary clutch must be a POLARIS drive clutch, model P-85. No machining, grinding, cutting or welding allowed on the clutch. Any combination of springs, weights, ramps may be used. Metal may be removed but not added to ramps or flyweights in the primary clutch.

Any driven clutch may be used. Driven clutch and components may be modified.

Chain case, jackshaft, brake disc and track shaft must remain stock and in stock location; no modifications or lightening allowed. Chain and sprocket ratio may be changed. Belt drive system is not allowed.

Brake cooling duct, inside the hood, is allowed

Ski suspension and steering must be OEM for the model unless otherwise specified

Radius rods and tie rods may be replaced or modified.

Maximum outside to outside width across the skis is 45 inches.

Must use all original suspension mounting points on chassis and struts.

May use any spring or spring adjusters. Titanium springs are not allowed.

POLARIS part # 7041144 is the only OEM ski shock allowed. KIMPEX part # 08-113 is the only replacement ski shock allowed

Sway bars may be replaced but must fit in stock location thru bulkhead.

Limiter strap allowed, but must maintain two and a half (2.5) inches of usable downward travel with the driver seated. Travel measured at the front bumper.

Suspension components may be reinforced but no geometry changes are allowed except camber.

The steering column and handlebars may be relocated and / or replaced, including extensions, to fit the driver. All ends must be plugged.  The handlebar must be of the same material with the same wall thickness (or greater) and tubing outside diameter.

Throttle lever may be replaced but must be thumb operated with a direct mechanical operated mechanism on rear side of right handlebar

May use aluminum racing skis.

Complete track suspension and components MUST be OEM stock for the model unless otherwise specified.

Track suspension must maintain a minimum of 2 inches of useable, vertical travel with the driver seated.

May drill new holes in tunnel or rail to change mounting locations. May not drill excessive amount of holes for lightening.

May modify or replace springs. Titanium springs are not allowed.

POLARIS part # 7041142 is the only OEM front shock of the rear suspension allowed. KIMPEX part # 04-271 is the only replacement front shock of the rear suspension allowed.

May remove front shock.

POLARIS part # 7041250 is the only OEM rear shock of the rear suspension allowed. KIMPEX part # 04-235 is the only replacement rear shock of the rear suspension allowed.

May relocate rear shock.

May change or add limiters to front and rear of track suspension. No remote limiter adjusters allowed.

May add or subtract marginal snow wheels and their mounts.

May add slide lubrication system.

Any commercially available rubber track 121 inches x 15 inches is allowed. Minimum track lug height is .50 inch.

 The track must be used as produced by the molder of the track. No cutting or other modifications allowed.

Chassis may be reinforced.

May alter or replace hood, windshield, belly pan, seat, fuel tank and foot stirrups

May remove bumpers, dash panels, oil tank, lights and wiring.

Ignition system MUST be OEM stock for this engine, no modification allowed. May not lighten flywheel.

Any OEM snowmobile taillight is allowed but must have 1157 bulb with brake element illuminated whenever engine is running.

Instruments, gauges and headlight may be removed.

Spark plugs, spark plug wires and connector not have to be OEM.

Sportsman 600: 1995 & Older

Must start with 1995 or older production Polaris, Arctic Cat, Ski-Doo, or Yamaha sled.

 

Sled must retain the following:

 

1.

Original tunnel and bulkhead for the model

 

2.

Original type engine for the model.

 

3.

Front suspension concept must remain as produced, (i.e. trailing arm, strut, a-arm, etc) but may be altered in the following manner:

  

a.

Original springs may be altered or replaced

  

b.

Original shocks may be replaced, or altered, aftermarket shocks are allowed.

  

c.

A-arms, trailing arms, struts, may be changed but must be OEM for the brand.

  

d.

OEM for the brand torsion bars may be altered to fit the chassis being used.

  

e.

Limiters and other methods of travel restriction are legal, but he snowmobile must have 2 (two) inches of useable front travel minimum.

 

4.

Rear Suspension must be OEM for the brand.

 

 

. 1. Rear suspension may be altered in the following manner:

  
a.

Shocks may be altered, removed, or rendered inoperable as needed.

  
b.

The suspension must bolt to the chassis within the confines of the original mounting plate reinforcements of the chassis selected.

  
c.

Suspension springs may be replaced with non-OEM springs.

  
d.

Aftermarket shocks may be used.

 

5.

Track

  

1.

Track may be OEM for the brand, or any R rated track that is no higher in lug height than the original production tracks available for the model, as filed.

  

2.

Tracks may be no longer than 133 inches

  

3.

Tracks must be 15 inches wide production tracks or designated replacements. They may not be narrowed from production specs.

  

4.

Tracks narrower than 15 inches may not be used even if available from the original equipment manufacturer.

 

6.

Bulkhead and Tunnel

  

1.

Bulkhead must remain in original orientation to the tunnel.

  

2.

Chaincase, jackshaft and front drive axel placement must all remain OEM for the model

  

3.

Front suspension mounting points within the bulkhead may be reinforced but not relocated.

 

7.

Engine

  

1.

Engine must remain OEM for the Brand and Model.  One, two or three cylinders,     2 cycle only .

  

2.

The following engine components may not be modified:

  
a.

Cylinders, no porting allowed, overbore of .040 allowed

  
b.

Heads

  
c.

Crankshaft must retain original stroke

The following items are allowed for builder efficiency and affordability considering  the age of the equipment utilized.

  
a.

Crankshafts may be welded for repair.

  
b.

Aftermarket rods and bearings may be used

  
c.

Aftermarket wristpins and wristpin bearings may be used

Ignition must be OEM for the model.

  

5

Exhaust must be effectively silenced, but maybe modified or changed.

  

6

Carburetors and intake system must remain OEM for the engine and model.

  
a.

The only allowable tuning components for the carburetors shall be OEM type jets, slides, needles, etc.  No aftermarket enhancements allowed

  

7

Air boxes may be modified or removed.

  

8

Engine mounting plates must remain OEM, but the isolation devices (mounts) may be replaced

  

9

All belts, hoses, wire looms, cables, controls and gaskets may be replaced.

 

8.

Brakes
  

1.

Brakes must remain OEM for the model.

  

2.

If a model has mechanical brakes, hydraulic replacement components are allowed but must be used in the original location at all points. (Master, Caliper, and Disc)

 

9.

Clutches

  

1.

Clutches both drive and driven must be OEM for the brand but may be replaced, or updated.

  

2.

Aftermarket, springs, helixes, cams, arms, weights, bushings, etc may be used.

  

3.

No additional machining to the clutch surfaces will be allowed. (Drive and Driven)

 

10.

Ski's

  

1.

Any legal ski may be used.

  

2.

Sled must not be wider that 45 inches at the outside of the skis.

 

11.

Traction

  

1.

All traction and steering aids shall conform to general rules.

Hood, Belly Pan and Seat
The competitor is encouraged to retain the original appearance of the OEM model, color not withstanding. Replacements for hoods must be original type materials and not lightweight versions, even if original type material. Belly pans may be aftermarket replacements. Seats may be reupholstered but must be OEM for model. They may be contoured for comfort and safety. Side bolster pads may be added.

 

13.

Bumpers
Bumpers may be removed, added, modified, or replaced.

 

14.

Fuel tank
Fuel tanks must be in original position, and must be inspected for safety concerns. No leaks, improper line routing, or damaged tanks or caps will be allowed.

 

15.

Fuel
High octance race fule may be used.

 

16.

The sleds shall comply with all general and safety rules.

 

17.

F-500 machines are legal to enter this class at any time but must conform to the following Sportsman 600 rules: Hood and pan must match and must appear as a 88-92 Polaris 500 Indy snowmobile.

 

1 Lunger Mod/Fan:

Any single cylinder fan cooled sled 1973 and older, NO FREE AIRS!  NO REED MOTORS!

Engine must match the chassis and year.

Internal engine mods allowed, .060 max overbore, 340cc max.

Any carbs, exhaust, clutches, ignition, chaincase.

Any functional leaf spring ski allowed, no shorter than 12 inches. 

Stock spindle width plus 3 inch max ski spreaders.

Any track and suspension.

Cooling fan must be intact.

Super Stock Classes:

Any 1985 or older production leaf spring snowmobile.  Engine, mount, exhaust, chaincase, and chassis must remain stock and in original positions.

Original ignition systems (may use aftermarket cdi’s) stock carbs and airbox may be removed.  Any size carbs.  Must look like the original sled.

Aluminum skis allowed (North Star) with up to 3 inch max ski spreaders (no trick skis)

Internal engine mods allowed.  .060 overbore max.

Rear suspension, drive shaft, and track may be changed for rubber track.  Replacment parts must be OEM, if you have an "R" track, we will not make you change it for 3 races.  If running cleated track, drive train must be stock for the sled.

Sled mods can be made for driver comfort only, handlebars, windshield, seat, fuel tank…

Super Mod:  1985 or Older

45 Inch max ski width.

Motor must match the chassis and hood brand except in open, any motor mods allowed, .060 max overbore except in open.

Any carbs, igniton, and exhaust.

Any rear suspension and track.

Any functional leaf spring skis.

 

503 Sprint 

Production or hand built chassis.  No exotics.

Any engine modifications allowed.  Engines up to 503cc Fan or Air cooled.  Piston Ports only.  Engine examples 488 Polaris, 500 Cat 5000, 503 Rotax.  This class is for the older motor sleds.  

Must start with stock Y pipe.  Any pipe allowed. 

Any size carbs.

Any hood, windshield, seat.  Hood does not have to match chassis. 

Any front and rear suspension.  

 Track cannot be any shorter than 112.

 

Sprint Open: 

Any production or hand built chassis.  Any chassis modifications allowed.

Any engine modifications allowed. Engine up to 600cc Fan or Air cooled. Y pipe can be modified to fit chassis.  Any pipe allowed. 

Any size carbs.  Hood does not have to match chassis.

Any front and rear suspension.

Rubber or cleated track. 

Track can be any size.

 

Pro Stock 440/600:

Any Fan or Liquid Cooled Stock or Pro Stock production snowmobile.

 

Champ 440:

Any production or hand built chassis.  Any chassis modifications allowed.

34mm round slide carbs.

Any engine modifications allowed.  440cc twin liquid engines. 

Any size track.

 

 

F1 Open: 

Anything goes up to 600cc!
